Colin Powell has suggested the following about leadership advice and I will synthesise this to see how it could benefit me.

1. It ain't as bad as you think. It will look better in the morning. (I agree with this and have used this excuse probably more than once thus it probably having no meaning for me)

2. Get mad, then get over it. (I am slowly getting into this rhythm. In the past I used to look back after I got mad and then got depressed as a result. I know I should avoid this from happening.)

3. Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it. (Now this is an interesting statement. It is true to say the least and I admit I have made this mistake. Now let's see about not making it again.)

4. It can be done. (I am a true believer in this. Everything can be done as there are ample resources for it to happen.)

5. Be careful whom you choose. (This has been well put. In the past I have often chosen the wrong people to aid me although as of recent it hasn't been the case. I now know how to choose better and I choose based on the persons credential and whether or not they share the same goals and are willing to go for that drive.)

6. Don't let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision. (I am a sucker for this athough it doesn't mean that I don't know right from wrong. I get this wrong because I let my feelings take control. Again I will need to focus on this.)

7. You can't make someone elses's decision. You shouldn't let someone else make yours. (Dr Walter Jarvis has always emphasised this to me and I couldn't agree any more. I should always make my own decision and not let it be persuaded by others. At the same time others should make there's to avoid complication down the track.)

8. Check small things. (Something I am proud of doing. I always believe every corner counts and no matter how pointless the information it should be acknowledged rather than discounted for it too makes up the final outcome.)

9. Share credit. (I am a bit lob sided on this one. I share credit sometimes and then at other times I don't. I still don't know why, perhaps it's because I feel as if others sometimes don't deserve credit if they have done nothing or very little to contribute to it.)

10. Remain clam, be kind. (I still need to get this one right. But I feel as if one day I will be able to.)

11. Have a vision. Be demanding. (I would credit that having a vision is very critical and as such it deserves to be demanded that those around me transpire to it. But sometimes although the vision is acknowledged people still don't understand it. Which often leaves my vision flattened.)

12. Don't take counsel of your fears or naysayers. (Fears are only an obstruction to the end goal, so I acknowledge that fears shouldn't be acknowledged.)

13. Perpetual optimisim is a force multiplier. (optimism defifinitely does wonders. At best it makes the dream a reality. I believe this is currently working for me otherwise I wouldn't be doing my degree.)
