So what can I learn about today’s leader of the day.......Tayyip it seems is another one of those political leaders who has been around for quite some time. Respectively this tells me again that leadership is an ongoing process and one that isn’t commonly achieved within a short span of years although this obviously does vary case to case.
Tayyip’s approach to leadership is quite radical and this has shown as he has been locked up for standing up for democracy in some way. This tells me that he has used a democratic leadership style whilst it also tells me of determination. I note this as I now recognise that utilising a democratic leadership style has some merit if you are willing to fight for it whilst it also means that a leader may gain more followers.
It also seems that his communication skills are quite superior in that he has managed to lead Muslims in Turkey even though his relationship with them may be perceived to be a bit weakened. No easy feat to say the least.
I do credit him though for being able to identify that times are changing and adapting to this rather than following old ways. This tells me that as a leader I must be able to keep up with the times and adapt where need be. Especially this would need to be done to gain the support of my followers rather than losing a few due to mixed opinions. Overall I find from this that leadership is about going forward even if it is only one step at a time.
